Gilgit Baltistan offers unique landscape, parallel to no other, with Gilgit-Baltistan covering an area of 72,971sq km.
The mountains in Gilgit-Baltistan are roughly categorized into 4 mountain ranges; On the border with Afghanistan in the West lies the Hindu Kush range, the eastern boundary of which ends in the Ishkoman Valley in Ghizer. The Ishkoman River divides the Hindukush from the Karakoram. The main mountain range is the Karakoram, which begins from the Ishkoman Valley and extends as far as the northeast along the border with China. Towards the north of the division of the Hindu Kush and the Karakoram are the Pamirs, which form a border with Afghanistan and reach Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. In the southeast separated from the Karakoram by the River Indus this time, lies the western tip of the Himalayas.
